Lalith Weeratunga And Anusha Palpita admitted to Prisons Hospital

Former Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunge and former Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Director General Anusha Palpita were admitted to the Prison Hospital a short while ago.
Prisons Reforms Ministry Spokesman Dumidu Bandara said they were admitted to hospital as they had complained of suffering from diabetes.
Meanwhile, he said they were drafting a document making the consent of the Prisons Department Commissioner General mandatory if a prisoner was to be admittedto the Prison Hospital.
Currently, this is done with only the consent of the prison hospital’s doctor.
The duo were charged with distributing Sil material with funds belonging to the TRC during the 2015 Presidential Election thereby incurring the government financial losses worth 650 million rupees.
They were sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment each and were fined 2 million rupees each yesterday.
Court also ordered the duo to pay 50 million rupees each in compensation to the TRC.
